Kevin Costner Testifies In Stephen Baldwin Oil Spill Cleanup Lawsuit

Kevin Costner

Kevin Costner took the stand at a court in Louisiana on Thursday to testify in his multi-million dollar legal battle with fellow actor Stephen Baldwin and defend his role in an oil-cleansing technology company.

Baldwin has accused the Tin Cup star of persuading him to sell his shares in Ocean Therapy Solutions, a firm which builds devices to tackle oil slicks, shortly before company bosses landed a lucrative contract to help BP executives clean up the Gulf of Mexico spill in 2010.

Costner is adamant no deal with BP was in place when Baldwin decided to offload his shares, and during his testimony on Thursday, the Oscar winner defended his role in the company, insisting he is more than just the celebrity face of the film.

He told the New Orleans court, "I'm not just a celebrity. I'm not just a person who opens doors. I've probably invested more money in cleaning up oil spills than anyone in the world."

Costner also told the court he vowed to vigorously defend the case because "my name is at stake."

Baldwin is demanding $4 million in compensation. Costner will return to the U.S. District Court in New Orleans on Friday to continue his testimony.
