Wanted: Small Businesses for How I Power My Business Series ...

?

Holidays are always good times for housekeeping items at your small business and it?s no different here at Firmology. We?re taking the opportunity to tidy up our editorial calendar and thought it was the perfect time to announce a new series: How I Power My Business

One of the best ways to learn is from each other, so we?re looking for small business owners and professionals who want to share how they power their business. What apps, software, service or gadgets are essential to the operations of your business? What time-saver or money-saver would you love your fellow small business owners to know about? If you find yourself raving about your CRM system, email marketing software or payments platform, let?s hear it!

Here?s an example:

How I Power My Business
By Philip Nowak

Philip Nowak is the founder of Firmology, a?Chicago-based small business news and information media company .

I launched Firmology after I worked for my dad?s window company during my youth and realized that small businesses are?under-served?in the technology space. Most mom and pop businesses don?t need the all the bells and whistles of enterprise (big corporation) software. Instead, they need tech apps or software that?s easy to learn, cheap and saves time.

Firmology is not a capital-intensive business as we currently produce online content. That isn?t to say that we won?t launch a physical product, digital product or service some day, but that isn?t the situation today. As a result, we use basic tools to power our business. Firmology is built on WordPress, the?preeminent?blogging platform and uses the help of several plugins including Wufoo to power our submission forms, Livefyre for our comment system and Digg Digg for sharing posts. There?s a whole bunch of other plugins we use, but we?ll skip to our business operations.

If you?ve signed up to receive our emails, you might have noticed that we use MailChimp for our email marketing software and is synced with Highrise, our contact management app. We use Gmail as our email service provider, which is amazing. I never get spam. It?s that good. By far, the most helpful piece of software we use is Basecamp, which we use to manage projects, to-do lists, manage guest writer submissions and edit articles.

If you?d like to be featured on Firmology?s How I Power My Business series, here?s what we need from you:

  1. Headshot/Company Photo: Ideally, we?d like a picture of you standing in front of or in your business, but we?ll take your profile headshot by itself or two separate photos too!
  2. Company Logo: Who doesn?t have a logo now-a-days? If you don?t have the file, just send us your website link and we?ll grab it from there.
  3. Description of Business: Tell us about your business! What is your product or service? Extra points if you have a story of how or why you launched your business.
  4. How You Power Your Business: What apps, software, service or gadgets do you use to power your business?
