HOLLYWOOD (WWJ) ? If you?ve ever wondered just how easy it can be to steal someone?s identity, you can watch the new movie Identity Thief to find out. It?s a crash course in what can happen when someone?s identity is stolen, and a lesson in just how difficult it can be to recover from it if it does happen. And, yes, it does happen. We?ve all heard the horror stories.

In this case, it happens to a guy by the name of Sandy Bigelow Patterson (Jason Bateman), whose identity is ripped off by a woman named Diana (Melissa McCarthy) Diana tricks Sandy into giving her his personal information (including his social security number!), which she then uses to finance her wild ? and I do mean wild ? lifestyle. Once Sandy discovers his identity has been stolen, he has one week to track down the thief who has turned his world upside down before he loses everything he?s worked for.

In the course of trying to get his life back on track, Sandy comes face-to-face with a skiptracer (aka bounty hunter), a couple of hired thugs (played by T.I. and Genesis Rodriguez) and a lonely cowboy by the name of Big Chuck (Eric Stonestreet of Modern Family) out looking for a good time.

While Identity Thief tackles a pretty serious subject, it does so in a lighthearted way. It?s billed as a comedy, after all. But, while there are moments that?ll get you laughing, quite honestly, there are some parts of the film that seem to drag on. My opinion: if you need to get out of the house, you might want to check it out. Or, you just might want to save your hard-earned cash and wait to see it on DVD.
