FIU was ranked No. 38 in CBSSports.com?s preseason ranking, based purely on a computer calculated formula, yet were only the second highest ranked Sun Belt team and behind two other teams they face in the first month of the season.
Louisville ranks 29th, Central Florida was 32nd and Louisiana was 34th.
According to the website, the CBSSports.com 124 rankings are produced by Jerry Palm?s own computer formula.
They measure how a team has performed against its schedule this season to date, including game location.
Margin of victory is a consideration, to a degree.
The date the game was played, the name on the front of the jersey, the name on the front of the opponents? jerseys, conference affiliation and what a team did last year are not factors.
FIU staying pretty healthy
So far, FIU?s had a relatively healthy camp and the players lost to injury have been freshmen.
