The idea of low maintenance is always attractive to any one person who can?t afford to waste money, time or effort on most things. Well, surprisingly, some people would like to apply this when choosing their partners in life just the same. Ha! Taking these repairs for granted can turn even a really beautiful house into a shack fit for a bulldozer. Unlike the traditional choice of wood siding, vinyl is almost no maintenance. You may find yourself wanting to clean it every few years, but mostly it doesn?t really require much upkeep. Although vinyl siding can still fade due to exposure to direct sunlight, you really don?t need to replace it. All you have to do is repaint over it with the right paint and some prepping.

When painting vinyl siding, it is important to note that these PVC panels work best with paint blended with polyurethane and acrylic resin. Since vinyl will expand and contract with climate change it doesn?t soak up paint very well. A paint base of polyurethane and acrylic resin allows the paint to firmly stick to vinyl surface and will actually flex with it. A common mistake some people make when repainting, is using a darker paint over the original color of the panels. Sidings should reflect and let light bounce off. Darker paints absorb heat and doing so will warp the vinyl.

To prep your vinyl siding surface for painting, make sure you have cleaned, scrubbed it with soapy water, rinsed and dried it completely. It is best to wait for an overcast day to do your painting as this helps the paint to dry quicker and bond with the surface. Well that and the fact that you?d be pretty toasted after a hot day painting and sweating like a cold bottle of beer left under the sun. You can opt to use an airless sprayer to do the job or a roller brush and a small brush for touch ups. Two coats of paint is recommended for both methods to help the paint adhere more to the surface and keeps it from chipping and peeling.

You can do this task easily if you have a spare weekend but if you would rather spend some quality time with the family, why not splurge on a little hired help to do the job for you. Low maintenance doesn?t always necessarily mean you have to do everything yourself.
